[size=150]LAMAR JOINS PHILLIES BASEBALL OPERATIONS STAFF[/size]
Former Major League General Manager Chuck LaMar has been hired as the Phillies' Director of Professional Scouting, Senior Vice President & General Manager Pat Gillick announced today.
LaMar, 51, joins the Phillies' baseball operations staff after serving one season with the Washington Nationals as special assistant to the general manager & national crosschecker.
"Chuck brings a lot of experience in many different capacities to our club," said Gillick. "We're pleased we had the opportunity to bring someone with his background into the organization."
For the past 23 years, LaMar has served in various front office roles for several teams, most notably as the general manager for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from when the franchise was founded in 1995 through the 2005 season. During his time as GM, Tampa Bay drafted developed Major Leaguers such as Carl Crawford, Rocco Baldelli, Delmon Young and B.J. Upton, among others.
Prior to his time with Tampa Bay, LaMar spent five years with the Atlanta Braves as director of scouting and player development and assistant general manager for player personnel, oversaw the Pittsburgh Pirates' Minor League operations for two years and served as a scouting supervisor with the Cincinnati Reds.
LaMar and his wife, Cheryl, live in Clearwater, Fla.
