After Gavin Floyd (2001) we did not have a pick in the top half of the first round till Nola. Wolever hitting on Crawford and then Nola is not a bad track record for top picks (even with his current struggles Crawford should be seen as a pretty good number 16 overall pick).

Let's wait a couple months.
Players often take off after a slow start, and cool off after a hot start.
Especially players at a new level.
And the weather this year was dreadful until recently.
Also, when you have less than 100 PA, one good week can raise your OPS by 100 points.

What's gone wrong with Eshelman? I realize that he never was a "great arm" or "great stuff" guy, but he was supposedly a Maddux-type pitcher who would win a handful of games and be a horse with pinpoint command and control. Is his lack of real talent catching up with him?

Moniak appears to have better bat speed than when he was drafted. Obviously high school is an entirely different speed than pro ball, but he played against some really good competition. If you watch his amateur ABs he looks very in control,like he's seeing the ball very well his swings were balanced and in control. Now in pro ball it looks like he's either trying to cheat to catch up to fastballs, or that he's not recognizing sharper breaking balls. Same swing, but the speed looks like it has him caught in between. The tools are there, but it the hand to brain coordination ability could just be one of those unteachable neurological things. It's gut wrenching to see a number 1 overall do so poorly in A ball.

I realllly like Darik Hall. Not the same hitting ability as Hoskins, but definitely the power, and he keeps getting better.

One of the prospect chats (forget which) did mention that scouts like him a bit more now. Supposedly he has worked on his body and is in better shape and that has helped his batspeed a bit. BB/K ratio is still a work in progress though and he is a bit old/experienced for the level. He might be at least earning his way into the back 10 of our top 30.
