I'll continue to disagree with that narrative as it reinforces a false equivalency between Trump and Biden.
They are nothing alike and have completely different track records, goals for the country and vision for the future.
Biden represents normal, rational America: a little left of center moderate politician with a long track record of public service and strong belief in using the federal government to improve as many people's lives as possible.
His goals, whether they be in the economic, health care, insurance, tax, labor, environment, energy, infrastructure, education, trade and foreign policy realms, all stem from from that philosophy. He stands for many of our commonly accepted American values: rule of law, equal justice, individual rights, importance of family, religious freedom etc.
His vision for the future is for America to remain a force for good in the world as it also continues to work on perfecting our union here at home. Helping the world solve the large issues humanity faces together with minimal conflict helps America and vice versa.
We've had many Presidents like Biden in our past from both parties and faced major issues at home and abroad that had to be handled carefully, skillfully and consistently. Our country and the world have benefitted from leadership of that quality.
Trump, OTOH, represents abnormal and irrational America: a con man opportunist currently wearing the cloak of an arch right wing populist, but who adhered to a liberal Democratic approach for decades since it served his business interests best in NYC and allowed him to escape financial ruin of his own making numerous times and continue to break the law in running his various business "enterprises".
He has no goals for the country, other than making sure he and his family maximize profit and minimize risk not only for any economic consequences, but legal ones. He is running for office for one reason: stay out of jail. He does not believe in any American values, other than the ones he can use to escape accountability for his actions and to leverage as weapons against his perceived enemies.
His vision for the future is also an empty shell: sure, he mouths words about immigration, national security, the economy, trade etc., but he does not believe in any of it beyond what it can do to help him gain & retain enough power to, again, stay out of jail i.e. avoid accountability and punish those who dared try to apply the rule of law, equal justice and remain true to our Constitutional principles.
Trump and Biden are absolute polar opposites and provide probably the most defined choice we could ever have in a Presidential election. It is not the lesser of two evils; not even close. It is good vs evil, normal vs abnormal, rational vs irrational and principled vs mendacious in their starkest forms.
Anyone who pulls the lever for Trump (I know we do not pull levers anymore in most voting booths, but it sounds better), does so with no excuse for not understanding who he is, what he wants to do and why and what he represents for the present & future of our country.
