Given the choices I vote Maddon but I'm not sure he's a serious candidate (in either direction). This poll is going to get dated fast (as guys come off the board and we hear about the Phillies actually interviewing people).

I don't have a strong feeling about this. I know who I don't want more than I know who I want.Went with Girardi here.
The manager has such a small impact and just needs to keep everything together without upsetting the fans or media. I'm more concerned about the GM/FO

I selected Girardi. Showalter would be fine with me as well. Girardi, being a bit younger might be an advantage for him with relating to the players. Either way with one of these candidates, the word responsibility is going to enter the club house. The Loosey Goosey days that were in town would be finished.
If JG got the job, Rob Thompson is already on the staff to be his bench coach. He might also be able to nab Mike Harkey off of the Yankees to take a step up and be the PC. Harkey has been the Yankees BP coach and we all know how strong that has been.
Either one of these candidates would be good. They are strong personalities which I don't see as a bad thing with this FO. Middleton seems to be an owner who wants to be convinced by others that their proposal is the best path to take. I can't see Buck or JG backing off when they think that they are right.

It's starting to look like there are only three candidates. No suggestion they are going back to Farrell. Scioscia hasn't ever truly come up and can't imagine Klentak would want him.

And no real reason to interview Wathan if it's truly "former major league managers only need apply." The so-called courtesy interview sometimes helps elevate a guy's resume but I don't think that would be the case if it means not getting the same job twice. And it's not like they have to pick his brain.

It really seems setup for Girardi as he is the most analytics friendly of the possible top tier managers. It is just hard to evaluate how good a manager is when they consistently have had good teams to work with. Girardi would seem to check all the boxes this team is looking for, including making a bit of a national PR splash to send a message that they are serious about winning (sent to a Mr. G. Cole in part).

Bowden has our best fit as Showalter and then Baker FWIW. He has Girardi to the Mets.

Yeah, that's the only thing with Girardi is we're not necessarily his first or even second choice (though I don't think the Cubs want him. And I bet we could outbid the Mets. A toss-up for him on which front office is less stable).

I agree that we don't know how good he is but he's certainly not bad. And knows how to manage stars. And would be the best long-term fit if all goes right. Dusty is probably three years and done. Buck lasted a long time in Baltmore but generally has an expiration date. Whereas I could see Girardi clicking with Klentak, and/or being kept on by the next GM if his second season goes okay (one would presume a disappointing first season if we have a new GM).

It seemed from first indications that the Mets were Girardi's first choice but the Mets seem to be targeting the two Latino candidates (Beltran and Perez).
