If you read Judge Kennedy’s opinion in the Supreme Court decision that outlawed the death penalty for minors, he quoted neuroscientists findings that the last part of the human brain to fully develop and that doesn’t happen until mid twenties is the part that analyzes risk consequences. add peer pressure to that and you have a lot of men who think they won’t catch Covid, so they don’t need to vaccinate.

Also a good argument for returning the voting age back to 21. Remember, voting went to 18 as a part of the Vietnam Era move to make 18 year-olds true adults. Drinking, voting, etc. were moved to 18. The "old enough to fight, old enough to buy a beer, vote, etc." carried the day across the country. Then MADD gained momentum and got the drinking age moved back to 21 in every state. The power of the Federal government was used as a club to withhold money to states that didn't tow the line. Even states where the drinking age had been below 21 for years before the 1960s were forced to move to 21. Some states limit the buying of cigarettes and other tobacco products to those 21 or older. Seems to me that by saying a person is old enough to vote but not buy a beer or cigarette is saying voting isn't as important or doesn't require the maturity that we say is required for these other things.

So, once you stop people from voting when their brains aren't fully developed, how do you stop people from voting once their brains have begun deteriorating?

I find it abhorrent that you could die for your country in the military and not be able to vote, especially if there was a draft. If you want to raise the voting age to 21 I think you need to raise the minimum age for military service to 21. If you make the argument that a person doesn't have the maturity to vote until they turn 21, do they have the maturity to make life and death decisions in our countries behalf or decisions that put their own life at such risk?

It's usually people on th he right who want the voting age raised in order to keep more liberal younger people from voting.

MLB and the players' union could tighten COVID-19 protocols as cases rise

It is highly unlikely the union would agree to make vaccines mandatory for all players. The league does not appear interested at the moment in pursuing aggressive incentives to push vaccines, nor is it clear if the league could adopt new policies without consent from the union. Changes to working conditions in the majors typically require agreement with the players’ union.

MLB can unilaterally make changes in most of the minor leagues, however, and the league this week chose to tighten protocols at every team’s spring training facility, which are still in use during the season. On Monday, MLB made it mandatory for most anyone working at team complexes in Florida and Arizona to wear a face mask, regardless of whether they’ve been vaccinated or the activity they’re performing. The change applies to team buses and indoor areas, as well.

While it's still both foolish and irresponsible to not be pushing hard for vaccination, we're almost at the point where it's too late to do much good. Like, say Nola changes his mind and get a shot two weeks from now. He could end up missing a mid-September start (or just pitching poorly, which he's already doing sometime anyway) from second-shot side effects and would only barely be fully vaxxed at season's end.

Still, the idea of players missing the wild card game or even just a couple of NLDS games is unthinkable... and likely. I bet they introduce new protocols for potential playoff teams by mid-September, regardles of vaccination %.

Of course, players are already blaming it, and he's already erratic. Likely means he, and anyone else eyeing the playoffs on the horizon, contract year, arbitration... will be staying even further away from it.

The Phillies don’t care about winning | Opinion

An Op-Ed, but with this "updated" info:

For this piece, The Inquirer emailed the Phillies asking for an updated percentage of team members who are vaccinated. A representative told us it’s higher than 50% but would not disclose the number.

Clearly there are far too many members of the Phillies who do not care about their team mates or about winning. Nola has already hurt the team by missing a couple starts. Bohm has missed time for COVID. Falter has missed time for COVID. Others have as well.

The significant number of Americans who have exercised their "right" or have just been too ignorant or lazy to bother to get the vaccination have contributed to the rise in new cases, which is impacting the economy and is causing deaths. Yes, the Phillies not getting the vaccination have indirectly lead to deaths of their fellow Americans.

It is long past time to call them out. Everything is not about them.

Pfizers vaccine got full FDA approval today... anyone that said they were waiting for that no longer has an excuse.

I wonder if Austin Nola is vaccinated.

But if they had most vaccinated, the protocols are less restrictive so some lost time by vaccinated players would not have happened.

Good that they are vaccinated. So it is probably the fault of the other unvaccinated players we already know about. Of course they don't bring Bohm back.
