It was a good game, the star hitters hit early and the important relievers were all good. Who knows, last year at this time Andrew Baker looked like our next closer; Brice could still at least be the next Bellatti. Or just look good in an Iron Pigs jersey.

I quit watching spring training games after the sixth inning. At that point it’s mainly random players

Random players seemed like the fun part yesterday. Muzziotti, Marcus Lee Sang, Baron Radcliff, Felix Reyes. Not that they did much. But we'd probably rather our blown saves come from AAAA depth than young players.

I think you are underestimating the willingness of a drunk person to still throw a hot dog that costs them $2.50 instead of $1.

I also suspect that the lines throughout the park were a bigger issue for the Phillies than the (much more limited) bad behavior.

That was my biggest beef with dollar dogs. The lines were so long I wasted almost half the game waiting in line for food, and I didn't even want the darn things.

The article said they normally sell about 7k dogs. That’s actually a lot less than I thought.

When it's not dollar dogs you mean? No idea what the number should really be but there are always tons of people eating cheesesteaks and pizza and chicken nuggets and Bulls BBQ too. Plus 20% of paid attendance is probably the two club levels and the boxes. And then there's the people who bring their own food or just don't eat at the game.

Got to watch the game today. Always plenty to see. Many of these new Phils' pitchers earned another look. Castillo is crafty. Allard is crafty. Some of the other lesser-known guys throw plenty hard, too. Got educated on Pache's credentials, a player that just never became the star everyone thought he'd be. Maybe this season. Hit one out today and otherwise looked ready AB. Hall hit a 1-bounce-liner to 1B so hard that the 1Bman caught it w/o seeing it. Turned into a DP. Some days are like that. No Merrifield today. Nor Rojas. Good to see Turner and Stott back where they belong.

For many years, I loved Dollar Dog Night. It was possibly my favorite Phillies promotion. But, more recently, I really started to hate it. The Phillies killed it when they began coupling it with college promotions in the '00's. It's no accident that the Phillies only scheduled them in April, early May and September when the local colleges were in session. The Phillies knew DDN's audience. The problem, in addition to the outrageous lines, was that it basically became Animal House Night. Phillies game staffers i knew told me that DDN was the night you would not want to be scheduled for if you were a gameday staffer. A lot of drunkenness (including underage drunkenness) and general rowdiness. Good riddance to it.

It was clearly selling tickets too. But attendance was so good last year coming off the WS that they didn't need the early-season bump (and they should have only needed to do it in September when the team stunk).

The drunkenness is obviously a problem that begins in the parking lot and at the gates and concession stands.

Also is it true the hot dogs were smaller/different/worse? Probably the latter at least, due to just poorer quality control and being overwhelmed. I hear they were often cold.

I really enjoyed bringing my own hoagie to the last game I went to (which was, sadly, Game 6 against Arizona). I will definitely do this (though I probably wouldn't wait to get to the stadium to eat).

Jennifer Zavala is the best, and she's a great cook, too. If you get her dollar dogs and can afford it, buy something to drink or a side dish, too, so she makes some money and this promotion continues!!

I find it interesting that it appears Cave is starting in CF and Pache in LF for the one game today. Is this a reflection on either one of them or just most likely the position either would most likely play if they made the team and got a start?
