How well will Turners speed hold up into his 30s and can he be productive without it?

On the plus side, he brings an immediate boost to the defense, a significant upgrade offensively over Jean and probably a more natural lead off hitter than Schwarber which should give Kyle more RBI opportunities.

Probably. Heck, there might even be deferrals though I don't recall the Phillies ever doing that. But stretching it from 8 or 9 to 11 is essentially in the team's favor, even if it might not feel that way come 2031.

It essentially is a deferred money deal, as the Phillies can't expect to get much return on the last years of the deal. 8-10 years from now, the Phillies will have the highest paid pinch hitters/part-time players in the game. I don't really care though...the first level of CBT tax is likely to be 300+ million by then and it's not my money 2023 is going to be fun!

Probably, hes effectively two years younger, and a better hitter. He also doesnt rely as heavily on his speed so you would imagine he would decline slower.
On the flip side, theres still a stink associated with him from the Astros scandal, and hes struggled to stay healthy for a full season. Over the last 5 years Turner has played in 651 games, compared to 527 for Correa.

Dead money during a contract is not the same as deferred money. But it really doesn't matter unless the Phillies start pinching pennies (whether in real dollars or CBT dollars) at that point.

For tax purposes they are paying Turner and Stott less than they paid Didi and Segura (at least until Stott starts making money).
