Yes. But did we really think Kingery might be the next Utley? My recollection is that people (not including myself) though he should be groomed as a "super-sub," that he might be "too valuable" to simply be left alone to play 2B.
With respect to the rose-colored glasses folks, there was never any possibility that Cody Asche might be the "next Chase Utley," or the "next Scott Rolen," for that matter. Asche was pretty much what his pre-draft and minor league scouting reports said he was.
Stott is interesting - he is, of course, not a sure thing. But the scouts and the coaches are high on him - and they never were on Cody Asche, and except for that one spring training, not so high on Kingery, either.
Also, as I noted above, Stott isn't going to get the kind of jerking around that Kingery got. He'll be either at 2B or at SS (depending on how they choose to use Turner), and will likely be platooned with Sosa (shades of Mariano Duncan and Mickey Morandini). But in a platoon, he's the LH hitter, so he'll get plenty of AB, and therein an opportunity to continue to develop. And there won't be any pressure to carry the team offensively (not with the rest of this lineup!). The focus of attention and expectations will be on Trea Turner, and on Hoskins, Castellano, Schwarber, Realmuto, and Harper (when he's back). Stott (and Alec Bohm and Brandon Marsh) will be at the bottom of the order, can relax and focus on defense, and have the opportunity to just get the reps they need to get better at the plate.
