Klentak and McPhail certainly dawdled and failed to correct the problems with scouting and development. They represent lost time and opportunity, but the farm was ruined before they came on the scene. The strongest memories I have of them is an extreme all-deliberate-speed approach to a team in crisis and their willingness to give complete credence to an analytics department, which had yet to prove its competence. It was pathetic that the manager had to manage under the direction of these clowns. It's good that the analytics department is part of what is being remade. Still strange that the international scouting hasn't been under the microscope and knife.

Rather damning comments from Mead that his development was a priority to his new team in a way he never sensed while property of the Phillies. As if the Phillies still viewed their Australian efforts as just 'establishing contacts and credibility' as has been the case in Asia seemingly forever, although now we have a couple of promising guys, but who could possibly forget the fiasco of the two Korean pitchers.

My reaction was the same as yours, Julio. Infantile nicknames say more about the poster that the people the nicknames are directed towards.

And then when challenged, insult fellow posters. The old 'mainline morons' certainly was more easily understood. I figured this one out quickly from the context. It was a response to my not listing Klentak as one of the murderers of the farm. McPhail/Klentak and really McPhail/Klentak/the analytics department do sort of go together as a moiety.

I still struggle to understand what McPhail did during his time with the Phillies. It almost seemed like he didn't exist. I doubt the results would have been any worse had he not been there.

I was replying to you and he was replying to me. The content or value of the rhetoric aside, it was certainly clear who the name-calling referenced (figuring out which one was which perhaps took an extra moment).

Let's get this straight. The "name calling" was really criticism of MIddleton who hired an aging, disinterested 70 some year old (Sleepy) to run his franchise and then the 70 hired as his GM a Dartmouth graduate who had virtually no experience dealing with major league ballplayers other than an undistinguished few year as an Asst. GM for the Angels where he did nothing of note about anything (Skippy). MIddleton then turned his franchise over to these two grossly inept men who were anchors on an already sinking ship. My use of those names is a criticism of Middleton who made such an obviously horrible choice to run his team and then justified not spending the money he needed to make a team with no farm system competitive by claiming we were not "close".

Now FINALLY, Middleton hired DD, a man of great accomplishment, who actually knows what he is doing. DD is both setting up the long range development program the franchise needs and getting Middleton to spend the money that is needed to compete while young talent develops something that S &S could never do. I give MIddleton credit for finally stepping up and putting down the money that was needed. Like most ML franchise, the Phils have issues. But, now that there is competent, successful man running the franchise, I have nothing but great hopes for the future of this franchise. But my apparently too subtle digs at Middleton bad management decisions was and is valid.

I didn’t know exactly who you meant, but then I hate giving childish nicknames to people. I’m a snob in what I consider adult and classy. /not intended directly towardsED, I just think name calling has degenerated our civil society.
