The Ringer writer also suggested Holland.

I'm not making any judgments about the offense based on ST. I'm also not pencilling them into the wild card based on the notion that Williams, Alfaro, Altherr and Hoskins are all the same or better as last year. (Franco probably will be, and Crawford will probably better than Galvis too. Low bars.)

Arrieta signing feels a little like the Thome signing in terms of what it signaled. Hopefully my feelings are right.

For what it signaled it absolutely does. They also traded for Millwood that year.

Of course the Phillies didn't make the playoffs in any of the three seasons Thome played and the GM got fired after two of them, so hopefully these things will not be the case for Arrieta and Santana.
