I just don't know how good the Mets were in terms of real talent last year. They won games, and they beat us, but ... there are a lot of holes in that team, even after the upgrades they've made.
Their starting rotation is at best the third most talented in the division right now. Honestly, I think our top 3-4 are all better than their best starter right now, and I think you could make the same argument for the Braves against them.
Phillies: Wheeler, Sanchez, Nola, Suarez and Wheeler
Braves: Sale, Strider (once hes back), Lopez, Swellenbach and someone they pull out of thin air mid season
Mets: Senga, Montas, Peterson, Holmes and Blackburn
Soto, Lindor and potentially Vientos could all be perennial all stars, and they have a pretty good catcher at a time when the position is especially week around the league, but the other 6 hitters are all average or mediocre.
Of course this does give them lots of room for improvement
On paper I'd take their catcher, Short Stop, Third base (if thats where Vientos plays but he could be at first) and Soto over either of our corner outfielders.
But give me Bryce, Schwarber, Stott, Marsh (in CF) easily. You can include Bohm over Baty if Vientos is at third.
I also don't think their pen was all that special beyond Diaz and he always seems one inning away from blowing up for weeks at a time.
On paper I look at the Mets as they are currently constructed and they look like a good team with holes and I like us over them. Still a long way to go of course and they have the willingness to spend to fix these holes.
Our issue is a lack of flexibility, its difficult to make improvements as the MLB players we would want to move are probably add more value to the 2025 roster than anything we would get back in return.
