The idea of trading Bohm isn't addition by subtraction. It's that he has trade value and the Phils have needs. He's coming off a career year, and it isn't a given that he's overcome his defensive problems. I suspect he won't be a 3 WAR player next year.

That said, I wouldn't trade him unless we get better value at a position of need. I wouldn't object to Jonathan India being on the Phillies, but he is not really better than Bohm. Just a different skill set. If they trade Bohm, it should be to improve the team.

Another strike against India is that the Phillies haven't done that well with people with names of countries. Mark Portugal was probably the best, and that ain't saying much. Kevin Jordan? They had a guy named Hugh Poland in 1947 who went 0 for 8. Then there are all those Chads (Billingsley, Durbin, Ogea, Qualls,...).

Phillies agreed to a one-year deal with Garrett Stubbs to avoid arbitration. They tendered contracts to everyone but Austin Hays.

Brandon Rodgers was released by the Rox- injury problems keep him off the field. He won a GG at second a few years ago and hits lefties really well- convince him to platoon in left and at second and he could be a pretty productive guy…if he stays on the field.

It seems like that comes up with every Rockies player. I wonder if it's more that they can't hit as well away from Coors Field while they are playing 81 games at Coors Field, rather than they can't hit to begin with and get inflated by Coors Field.

Anyway kind of sounds like a Plan C, and Merrifield 2.0 (other than his age) for that matter. I think they are pretty determined to find a real LF this time.

Seeing the contract tenders come down, I wonder if one of the other factors behind the seeming Phillies/Bohm alienation is the way they treated him last year in arbitration. Seems rather silly considering it was ridiculously cheap of them to low-ball him to begin with and he not only won his hearing but out-performed the contract. Bohm shrugged off the process (i.e. said his feelings weren't hurt by what the Phillies said about him in the hearing) but perhaps the Phillies would rather move him than go through that again.

The agents want hype and the pundits, blogs and radio hosts want gossip. Regardless, hard to argue this is not Middleton and Dombrowski's SOP. Even Merrifield was more than many of us wanted or expected last year.

Last year was first full season as starter, 32 starts, 146 IP.
Maybe you can take the training wheels off and have a #2 SP. Maybe.
Certainly makes no sense trading Painter for him.

I'm not trading Miller or Tait, they have top starter upside.
Maybe Crawford, depending how the other system OFs look.
Maybe Caba, but that leaves a hole at SS in 2-3 years (don't expect Miller to stick).

They are not trading Painter. If they were Crochet would already be on the team.

I think if they go big, it's not going to be a single move. If they go get Crochet they will be trading Ranger for a bat. If they trade Bohm and it's not for a new everyday LF (or another IF) perhaps they actually are interested in Adames. They also have to get that higher-end reliever, whether by trade or FA (including bringing back one of their own current FAs).

Which I don't think is actually correct! But they are going to. I find it hard to believe we wouldn't have seen more reporting, particularly locally, if it had happened, even if the Phillies wanted to keep it quiet. I think there was maybe one premature report that they had and then a bunch of outlets went with it. NY media had plenty of details about his actual meetings with Mets and Yankees.

I remember Machado visiting Philly, but I don't recall Harper ever coming to town. Harper said something like he already knew Philly and certainly Soto does as well. It could be the Phillies FO & ownership went to Soto. Who is the guy who used to track Middleton's personal plane?

Yeah, Harper's meeting with the Phillies was pretty well-documented, it just happened to be in Vegas.

But I think this one just simply hasn't happened yet. On the 19th Heyman (always Boras's guy) posted on X that it was going to happen. On the 21st he was still saying that on WIP. When it happens, he will surely post that too, and we'll read about our from the local guys. .

Did the meeting happen in Vegas? I know the flight to Florida ended with his contract signing.

They met with him in Vegas twice, once in January and once in February. Sounds like Soto wants to be done a lot faster (and there's no Machado to wait out the market with).

I think it's advantageous for everyone to get the Soto deal early so the market is set for everyone else. It honestly feels like a 3-way race between the NY teams and Phillies as a dark horse.
