I don't want Bryce to sit much of course. Just want his bat in the lineup for as close to 162 games as possible. Bohm, Clemens, Schwarber, Kepler. It really does not matter who plays first occasionally. It is interesting that Bryce has also said he'd be fine going back to the OF if we got a first baseman next year. I am not sure I like that, but it is definitely interesting.

I guess the bottom line unfortunately is we might need a completely new OF once Casty leaves. Part of the reason Turner going into the OF should be a consideration when Miller is ready. Aroon Escobar sure looks like a 3B long term to me as well. Not that I am penciling him in yet, but just don't think he'll retain enough range for the middle infield.

Bohm is not a home run hitter. Putting him the fourth spot only encouraged him to try to do what he can't. Then getting into HR contests only fueled his downfall.
At this point, the Phillies have to make a major decision with him: are they going to keep him long term or not. If they are going to sign him to an extension at some point, he needs to be given the time and opportunity to rebuild his game. If they aren't going to retain his services, then he needs to be moved. He'll probably go to another club and be what he once was here- a .280 hitter; .320 OBP with 20 HR power suited to hit in the fifth or sixth hole in the order. Don't expect much in return for him.

Oh, there's no way they are keeping Bohm once he hits free agency. The only question now is whether he rebounds enough to still have trade value or play here next year. I certainly think (and hope) he will. If not, he'd be a non-tender. Heck, he could even be non-tender if he's merely decent. The year the Phillies' non-tendered Cesar he still had a 1.9 WAR and .741 OPS, which he easily repeated for Cleveland the next year too, but at a lower salary. That is probably where Alec will end up this year given he's already at -0.9 WAR and his career OPS is .733. If he does better, they can listen on him again (doesn't have to be a huge return, heck, look what they got for Soto) or bring him back for one last year.

Agreed, it's not his fault they hit him fourth and Nick shouldn't really be there either. Let alone Kepler. Money-wise, they replaced Hoskins with Turner but he's not that kind of hitter either, and JT can't be anymore.

I'm not sure I really believe in the legend of the Home Run Derby ruining players, but, it is undeniably a thing that happened. I suspect his injury and his fragile confidence were bigger factors; he still had his moments last year before the injury took him out for real. And he may still have the ability to turn in a 1.100 OPS month that turns his year around.

Rojas in for Marsh tonight against a RHP. Bohm hitting 8th..

Marsh back in action tonight. Seems like Rob made a pretty big deal about wanting to get him as much as three full days off (Lefty pitcher tomorrow) but then Rojas made him rethink that (which also forced Marsh into the game defensively last night).

Here's hoping Stott moves into his role at leadoff. A couple opponents thought he couldn't pull, but Stott showed that he can. Yesterday's order was my preferred order. After #4, the old saw that the order doesn't matter actually applies because the rest of the hitters are so inconsistent. The order doesn't matter when the whole team slumps together, either, as we seemed to be watching for a while.

Nice to see Casty showing up at the plate. Looks like he's made some really good adjustments, might have a good season, become the #5 hitter.

And people said Jim Fregosi was loyal to a fault to his guys.

Probably for the best with Marsh. Maybe even they get him a confidence building game or two at LHV when he comes back though this seems like it will be close to the 10-day minimum. Rojas probably starts full time in CF with Stevenson getting one start a week and then going into the pinch run/defensive sub role. There are not too many players he should really pinch hit for.

Yes it's not like the offense (or defense) can't survive without him. But Wilson really can't get back soon enough (which is funny to say) to play a little LF.

Umm... I'd long since seen all the "real" transactions on the milb.com side - and I was just ignoring the bit on the mlb.com side.

All... if you're curious, see this page.5 (Same link as above. Doh.)

So, for all the talk of the bullpen with its awful 5.81 ERA, tonight's starting pitcher has a 6.65 ERA , and the offense hasn't even helped get him a no-decision (0-4). Let's hope for better from everyone.

Right, would have been nice if the pen had even been handed a lead to blow in one of those games. But he's still allowed 5 runs and 6 runs in two of those four games. The other two were on the offense.

The good news is, zero HRs in his last two starts.

It's just weird to go into a three-game series against the Mets in Queens thinking the next two pitchers are the best chance of taking it. Which is gonna be hard to do regardless.

Glad to see Wilson back. Hoping Clemens can pass through waivers and stay in the organization, but don't see that happening. Guessing Pittsburgh, Chicago (AL) or Baltimore would take him and find more consistent playing time.

I think I am hoping that Clemens gets us a prospect back in trade. We just don't have a place for him and even if Bohm got hurt we still have Sosa and Wilson. Whether he has much value is unclear.
