I think I remember #9 being worn by Von Hayes.

I always had such high hopes for new additions to the Phillies, but over the years, they rarely lived up to the expectations.

For the Phils to blow a playoff berth they would have to finish worse than the 2007 Mets and have both the Braves and the Mets finish better than the 2007 Phils (and they play each other 3 times).

(After 146 games the Phils are up 8 on NY and 9 on Atl. After 146 in 2007 the Mets were up 5 1/2 on the Phils.)

I know some people like to go to bed at night looking at pictures of Chico Ruiz but I haven't been worried for a couple of weeks. I am kind of shocked at how well they are currently positioned for the bigger goals (#1 or #2, especially #2) however. The Milwaukee trip will tell the tale, but right now it seems like the worst thing that could happen is that they don't clinch the East before the last homestand.

(No, I don't believe my posts affect events either.)

I remember this card. 1971, I think. I was 7 years old and these were the first cards I started with. My favorite was Larry Bowa.

A couple years too early for Schmidt.

I remember getting his card when he was a rookie. Even as a rookie, and him hitting below the Mendoza line you could tell something big was coming. He was incredible at 3B and the ball just rocketed off his bat on the somewhat rarer than you wanted times he made contact.

Seems we'll be pulling for the number to skip Castellanos, Victorino, Samuel, etc since the only way that it could land on 8 would happen in games played after a sweep by the Mets.

This magic number is just for the division, right? I think it is less to clinch a Postseason berth.

If the above site is correct, it's seven to clinch a berth. as of this morning.

For better or for worse, both clinchings are likely to be on the road.

That site only uses wins. So 7 Phillies wins locks it up but I think it's 8 if you are using combined Phillies wins and other team losses (with the other team being the Braves, Cubs Giants and Reds will be out much sooner).
