Interesting acquisition, I hope we gave up almost nothing, my assumption.
Basically a redo on Bour, get another chance at adding some offense. If he plays the field at all we might actually have the worst defense in 100 years.
I'm reserving judgement until we see what we get in return. My first thought is that the DH better be coming to the NL by, say, tonight.
We gave up PTNBL or cash
Hey, he did have seven RBI in the 24-4 game!
And we have to designate someone for assignment off the 40-man roster (Walding or Valentin? Maybe even Lively). That is likely the biggest cost.
Short term assume they send Knapp back down for the rest of the minor league season. Is there a 10-day rule for that or can he be recalled after the last regular season game? Which would be Monday.
Leiter DFA'd, per MLBTR. I don't have a problem with this though I always feel a little bad when the Phillies trade/cut/lose on waivers a local guy who grew up as one of their phans.
I am fine with Leiter being the move. He is useful because of his versatility, but limited in his ceiling. 50-50 he clears waivers though clearly this is the time of year non-playoff teams can find spots by putting others on the 60-day DL.
Eickhoff is another potential 40-man move we might have to make.
I think I feel this way. And, if there are any starters on waiver wire I'd like to see them get one.
And don't forget Florimon. I'm guessing a) either Lively is DFA'd or Loup goes to the 60 day DL for Eickhoff and b) Valentin gets DFA'd (though possibly Walding does) for Florimon.
The Orioles or Royals would be nuts not to snag Leiter.
After his performance against the Mets, they can have him.
I would think Leiter clears. Taveras did.
Perhaps this is the favor AF alluded to earlier in another thread, vis-a-vis the Orioles essentially giving the Phillies $750k international allotment money for a fringe prospect?
Why not just include him in the trade in that case?
I like when we just make stuff up on this board and then convince ourselves its true.
The players being taken off the 40 man roster now almost certainly were destined to be removed by November, when the 40 man roster has to be set prior to the rule 5 draft.
Who is removed from the 25-man?
Looks like they have not made that move as yet. I assume Bautista joins the Phillies tomorrow for the final game against the Nationals or at the latest, for the game Friday.
Bautista is active tonight (Tuesday). Knapp has been optioned to AAA and Leiter has been DFAed and is off the 40-man roster.
