This team might contend, one never knows, the talent level is good enough if a few young players raise their game (Rupp, Franco, Joseph, Altherr) and the pitching comes through. Certainly they're talented enough not to throw in the towel in April.
Goeddel has zero value, he's never played above AA ball (last year doesn't count, he was overmatched in the majors), he has no special quality, i.e., gap power, strikes out a lot, lacks great speed, mediocre defensive outfielder and questionable at 3B. Yes, he could improve, especially making contact, but right now I'd take Pullin over him. Pullin is also a long shot, but he had a great AA half season, and hit as well on the road, so it wasn't a ballpark effect.
So if Nava shows well off the bench he'll actually have more trade value than Goeddel, as an experienced veteran for a playoff contender. If not, well, let's face it, Goedell at best would garner you a top 50 prospect or so. We have lots of those.
Stassi off his last two minor league seasons, winter ball and now this spring has earned a job, and may be the rare late bloomer who really does play above his history - he has improved at the plate, developed more power, is a plus fielding 1B (which are rare) and didn't embarass himself in the OF.
Garcia is a lottery ticket, he has great velocity, has shown enough that the splitter could conceivably be a game changer, and AAA bullpen depth always has value. At worst he eats some innings due to injury, at best he puts it together and is a dominant late inning RP. He won't be the first 30 year old RP to suddenly turn his career around.
