PHILLIES TRADE GALVIS TO SAN DIEGO
The Phillies have traded shortstop Freddy Galvis to the San Diego Padres in exchange for 21-year-old right-hander Enyel De Los Santos, Vice President and General Manager Matt Klentak announced today.
De Los Santos made 26 appearances (24 starts) in 2017 for double-A San Antonio and went 10-6 with a 3.78 ERA and 1.19 WHIP while holding opposing hitters to a .237 average. In a start on April 14 this past season versus Northwest Arkansas, De Los Santos required only 64 pitches to toss 6.0 perfect innings with seven strikeouts. Originally signed by the Seattle Mariners as an amateur free agent in 2014, De Los Santos was traded to the Padres on November 12, 2015 in exchange for Joaquin Benoit. He is currently ranked as the Padresâ 13th-best prospect according to MLB.com.
Galvis, who spent 12 years in the Phillies organization after being signed as a 16-year-old amateur free agent in 2006, played in a total of 642 games for the Phillies over the last six seasons (2012-17). A Rawlings Gold Glove finalist in 2017, he led all National League shortstops in starts (155), innings (1359.1) and fielding percentage (.989). Selected as the Philliesâ recipient for the MLBPAAâs 2017 Heart and Hustle Award, Galvis appeared in all 162 games, the first Phillies player to do so since Ryan Howard in 2008.
