Well, fair enough, but you can't count on anyone to play in the bowl if they are considering the portal, unless their NIL deal mandates it (or the bowl pays up). If part of the story of this season was that NIL affected team chemistry/performance, that is something the new coach is going to have to manage.
Changing one coordinator or the other almost every year, whether because of success or failure or, perhaps, because they didn't click with Franklin, has certainly not been great for PSU.
I'm hoping for Chesney and kind of expecting Campbell. But it could be Key. Not sure the surprise/big-name candidate exists. Hartline certainly could be an option but the logistics of that are still in question. In theory PSU could let him stay until Ohio State's season is done (he'd have plenty of time to focus on other stuff in December so long as they have a bye), but would Ohio State even want him to? It would be a disruption, but having the coach of your second-biggest rival still hanging around for another six weeks also not optimal.
