I admit I did vote for Perot (once). Honestly it was as much a protest vote as anything else. He was the best PERSON standing in front of me, he had actually done things in his life at that time that I would be proud to have represent me. Would he be a good president? I really doubt it, but at the time I didnt see the other 2 as viable candidates either as Bush Sr. had not impressed me and I was not optimistic about Clinton (he proved me wrong by being a very solid president).
Perot was an irritation probably and I think he would not have been able to contain some of his personality quirks in a presidential role, but he was a guy that had accomplished something in his life, and for that he had my respect and my vote.
Selecting Admiral Stockdale as a running mate (one of the most respectable people in the last half of the 20th century) just made him more appealing.
