Also played for the Phillies early in his career and drove in the winning walk-off run with a 10th inning single in the final ballgame ever played at Connie Mack Stadium f/k/a Shibe Park. The Cubs traded him and Dick Selma to the Phillies for Johnny Callison after the 1969 season when the Phillies decided to give up the ghost of getting the '64 team over the hump and commenced on a rebuilding project which would lead to the Phillies Phirst Golden Age. After 1972, Gamble and Roger Freed would be traded to Cleveland for Del Unser. Unser and others would later be traded to the Mets for Tug McGraw and Unser would later return to the Phillies as a free agent and have some big pinch hits in 1980. So, in that regard, Gamble's role in Phillies history is not terribly insignificant!
