Ohio Tourism This Weekend (OT)

So, I'm going to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony this Saturday. Unfortunately, I missed out on hotels so I need to stay outside the city due to cost. I was also thinking of hitting the Football Hall of Fame on Sunday. If anyone has been to this area, where should I stay? What should I try and see this weekend while in the Cleveland area? The Christmas Story House? The Art Museum? Cuyahuga Falls? The Football Hall of Fame?

Go to Cuyahoga Valley National Park and take in Brandywine Falls.

Last June, I was driving home from Indiana and decided to break the trip up by spending a day in Cleveland. I went to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the day and to a Guardians game that night. I spent the night at the Hampton Inn in Mentor, about half an hour east on I-90. I'm fine with no frills hotels like Hampton Inns, and this one was fine. One night is probably not much more expensive than the Guardians playoff ticket.

I have done the dinner train through the Cuyahoga National Park, and we enjoyed it. You don't see the falls from the train, but if you went early, you could look around the park before boarding the train.

You'll want to allot a fair amount of time for the Rock Hall itself of course. Going for any particular band on the bill? I bet the Browns game is a bigger reason for the hotel costs than the HOF or the baseball. That's always been my experience in cities like Seattle and Baltimore. You should go to a baseball game!

Westside Market was my other main stop in Cleveland, their version of Reading Terminal Market.

Presumably the Hall will be much more crowded than usual and will take longer to go through. I did it in a day when it wasn't crowded. Induction weekend in Cooperstown is the worst time to visit the baseball museum; it's a mob scene. (Though it's otherwise great to be in town that weekend; you can see lots of Hall of Famers around town. Of course the hotels are expensive, but there aren't that many of them in Cooperstown).

Yeah, at this point I've elected to get out of Cleveland after the concert on Saturday because I've done the Rock HOF before and want to go back to Cleveland next year to see the Phils play. Ive never been to The Jake. So, basically, I booked a hotel in Canton and am going to try and see Cayahuga Park and/or the football HOF before coming home on Monday.

I'm a big Dave Matthew's Band fan so am going to see them. Figured it would be the only time in my life where I'd want to see the show in person so got a ticket in August.

OK, call me Paul Harvey, but there's a story here! BR, you were at a conference in Indianapolis; you took the train to get there (great idea, by the way!). You drove home.

Where did the car come from (the "rest of the story")? Something boringly mundane (a rental)? Somebody drove to meet you in Indianapolis, and you drove back together? You...met someone... at your conference, formed an immediate attachment, and drove off together into the sunrise?

Enquiring minds want to know!

It's the mundane response; I rented a car. We own only one car, and so when my wife doesn't accompany me, I don't want to strand her! I take trains when I can, but I don't mind driving. The train options from Indianapolis to Boston are more convoluted, at least for the time I was returning. So I looked for an interesting return option knowing I would be taking two days to get home.

Now that I've moved farther from Boston, the train is a bit more of a logistic challenge. There is a train from my town directly to Boston--but to a different train station than Amtrak's services west and south. But I'm looking forward to the next adventure.

Yes, except for service to New Hampshire and Maine
