[size=150] PHILLIES ADD CHAVES TO PLAYER DEVELOPMENT STAFF [/size]
The Phillies have hired Rafael Chaves to be their minor league pitching coordinator, Joe Jordan, Director of Player Development, announced today.
Chaves, 46, spent the 2014 season as a special assistant, player personnel, for the Los Angeles Dodgers after spending five years as the Dodgers’ minor league pitching coordinator (2009-13). From 2006-07, the Puerto Rico native served as the major league pitching coach for the Seattle Mariners. He also served in the same capacity with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (AAA, 2008), Tacoma (AAA, 2004-05), San Antonio (AA, 2002-03), San Bernadino (A, 2001), Wisconsin (A, 2000), rookie level Everett (1999) and the AZL Mariners (1998).
“We are extremely excited to add Rafael to our staff,” said Jordan. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and is one of the most respected names in our business when it comes to developing pitchers.”
Additionally, Carlos Arroyo will resume his previous duties as the Phillies’ minor league roving pitching coach. The Phillies will announce their complete player development staff at a later date.
