[size=150] PHILLIES, WILLIAMS AGREE TO 1-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION [/size]
Right-hander Jerome Williams has agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Phillies, Senior Vice President & General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today. The contract includes performance bonuses.
Williams, 32, went 4-2 with a 2.83 ERA in nine starts for the Phillies after being claimed off waivers from the Texas Rangers on August 10. A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Williams allowed two earned runs or fewer in six of his nine starts as the Phillies went 6-3 in those games.
A veteran of 10 major league seasons, Williams has pitched for seven different clubs including the San Francisco Giants (2003-05), Chicago Cubs (2005-06), Washington Nationals (2007), Los Angeles Angels (2011-13), Houston Astros (2014), Texas Rangers (2014) and the Phillies.
