Its his natural position. He was there for 26 games this year in AAA and in his minor league career has 361 games there.

2B is the position he has played more than any other as a pro. I assume that's why mlb lists him that way in transactions.

I don't know what a "natural" position is, other than maybe fetal. I have to assume that Clemens has played more 2B than anywhere else because his arm strength is questionable on the left side, he doesn't play CF, and he doesn't hit enough for a corner OF spot.

Natural position is a term used by many around the game of baseball as the position the player started at or plays the most games at. Did you really quote my post to take a shot at my use of the term? A term I could easy google and show many other uses of in the media?

Yeah, we heard it (a lot) about Pat Burrell and third base, too.

I wasn't taking a shot at you, bkox. I just think the term, and the idea, is silly. Was Pete Rose a "natural" 2B? 3B? 1B?

The thing is, a lot of fans seem to think that because somebody is a "natural" at a given position, they - willy-nilly - should be able to play that position adequately at the major-league level. Frequently, the player can't do that; when the player tries and struggles, that's somehow the player's "fault." Not directing this at you, bkox, but we see it happen, frequently. It's a beast I would prefer not to feed, that's all.
