The end of what we once thought would be a very good Phillies career. He just couldn’t hit ML pitching, it was strange though, he had 2-3 different great months (1.000 OPS) and then would return to .400-.650 OPS. He had seasons that looked almost ok, but that was because he had a great month and then a few terrible one.

Good luck to him, but I think he is clearly a AAA player (if that)

I think someone will give a him a shot as a utility guy on a minor league deal now that there's no history and expectations attached to him. Doesn't seem like he's ever going to hit enough to be someone's starting 2B. But he can still run. We just saw Jankowski get a big hit in the World Series. If Kingery can actually be the same .725 OPS player he is in LV in the bigs he'll have considerable value. Otherwise, he's a depth piece. Another Phil Gosselin.

It did him no favors to be marooned off the 40 on a team with World Series expectations that didn't really need him. And yet he would have been just as good as Dalton Guthrie or Josh Harrison, the two players who beat him out in spring training (not that Harrison was fighting for a job).

BA article ranked the Phillies farm system hitting #4 overall “a pleasant surprise “ based off an age-weighted stat cast measure that includes hard hit rate, chase rate, and miss rate.

I couldn’t find anything noting this ranking had been done in years past to compare against, but it’s validation to the subjective observation that there was an overall big improvement throughout the org. It’s a good time to be a Phillies fan again!

And, holy geez the Dodgers really are on another level with hitting development.

Crouse certainly turned out to be a real bust given how hyped he was in the trade, but then, so did the guy he got traded for.

Forgot Drew Hutchison was even here again. Damon Jones is the only other one who jumps out at me, he had at least a few months where he was as hyped as Kerkering as an early-arriving reliever.

Let's just sign all the minor league pitchers coming off TJ surgery!

Makes sense as a strategy, sometimes these guys get a jump in velocity a couple years past surgery, given the cost, it's a cheap lottery ticket, at worst organizational depth.

I also like signing relievers who didn’t pitch too much the prior season. A lot of relievers are up and down, as if they pitch good, they get overused and have rag arms the next year.
