[size=150] PHILLIES CLAIM MARIOT FROM ROYALS [/size]
The Phillies have claimed right-hander Michael Mariot off waivers from the Kansas City Royals, Vice President & General Manager Matt Klentak announced today.
Mariot, 27, spent the majority of last season with triple-A Omaha, going 4-2 with a 2.32 ERA in 42 relief appearances. He posted a 4.50 strikeout-to-walk ratio (72 SO, 16 BB) while averaging 10.45 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched (62.0 IP). Mariot also has appeared in 19 games for Kansas City over the last two seasons, going 1-0 with a 6.11 ERA.
A native of West Hills, Calif., Mariot was originally selected by Kansas City in the eighth round of the June 2010 draft out of the University of Nebraska.
The Phillies now have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
