PHILLIES ADD FOUR PLAYERS TO 40-MAN ROSTER
Outfielders Aaron Altherr and Kelly Dugan, catcher Tommy Joseph and left-hander Rob Rasmussen have had their contracts selected to the 40-man roster, Senior Vice President and General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.
Altherr, 22, spent last season with single-A Clearwater where he hit .275 with 36 doubles, six triples, 12 home runs and 69 RBI in 123 games. A mid-season and postseason All-Star selection, Altherr led the Florida State League in doubles and ranked in the top five in hits (128), triples and total bases (212). The Buckeye, Ariz., native was originally selected by the Phillies in the ninth round of the June 2009 draft.
Dugan, 23, split last season between Clearwater and double-A Reading. In 112 games between both levels, the Encino, Calif., native batted .291 with 24 doubles, four triples, 20 home runs, 59 RBI and an .858 on-base plus slugging percentage. Selected by the Phillies in the second round of the June 2009 draft, Dugan was honored as Phillies Player of the Month for May.
Acquired in the trade for outfielder Hunter Pence on July 31, 2012, Joseph was limited to 36 games last season due to a concussion. The 22-year-old began the season with triple-A Lehigh Valley where he hit .209 with three home runs in 21 games before being sidelined. Originally selected by the San Francisco Giants in the second round of the June 2009 draft, Joseph is currently participating in the Dominican Winter League as a member of Estrellas de Oriente. Through five games, the Phoenix, Ariz., native is batting .231 with a double and RBI.
Rasmussen, 24, was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 31 in the trade for infielder Michael Young. Originally selected by the Miami Marlins in the second round of the June 2010 draft, Rasmussen went 3-11 with a 4.11 ERA in 28 games between double-A Chattanooga and triple-A Albuquerque.
With the additions of Altherr, Dugan, Joseph and Rasmussen, the Phillies now have 37 players on the 40-man roster.
