[size=150]PHILLIES ACQUIRE WIGGINTON[/size]
The Phillies acquired infielder/outfielder Ty Wigginton and cash from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for a player to be named later or cash, General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.
Wigginton, 34, batted .242 with 15 home runs and 47 RBI in 130 games for Colorado last season. Defensively he appeared at four different positions for the Rockies including 68 games at third base, 36 at first base, 21 in left field and six in right field.
Over his 10-year major league career, Wigginton has hit .265 with 158 home runs and 548 RBI in 1,190 games between the New York Mets (2002-04), Pittsburgh Pirates (2004-05), Tampa Bay Rays (2006-07), Houston Astros (2007-08), Baltimore Orioles (2009-10) and Colorado (2011). A 2010 American League All-Star, Wigginton was originally selected by the Mets in the seventeenth round of the 1998 draft.
