[size=150] PHILLIES SIGN ELVIS ARAUJO [/size]
Left-hander Elvis Araujo has agreed to terms on a major league contract with the Phillies, Assistant General Manager Scott Proefrock announced today.
Araujo, 23, split this past season between double-A Akron and single-A Carolina and went 2-1 with 11 saves and a 3.42 ERA in 43 games. He had 50 strikeouts in 50.0 innings pitched. Araujo began the year with Carolina before being promoted to Akron in early July and went 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA, which included a 15.0-inning scoreless streak over 13 games. Currently, Araujo is pitching for Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League and has struck out eight and allowed three hits through 7.0 scoreless innings.
A native of Venezuela, Araujo stands 6 feet, 6 inches tall and was originally signed by the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent in 2007.
