Williams isn't so much a troublemaker as he is now considered a persona non grata by MLB. Cursed out an umpire and taunted opposing players at his son's Little League game (not good but nearly as bad as Dykstra's criminal misdeeds), apologized for it, nonetheless got fired by MLB Network because of it and sued MLB over it (and recovered money) which got him on the not banned but blacklisted list. The shame of it is that in addition to being an important Phillies alumnus who was generally well-liked by the phanbase, he really was a good, insightful studio analyst.

More evidence that the Realmuto trade has been an absolute heist for us, especially with a neutron bomb going off next to Sanchez. At this point, do the Marlins even keep Sanchez on their 40-man this winter? If current patterns hold, he will not have pitched in a game at any level for three years.

I take no comfort in that, nor Spencer Howard, because that's just pitchers. We'll be lucky if two of the current big three Phillies prospects are thriving - for whatever team - in 2026.

That reality - as well as Alfaro's - also a good argument for making trades when you can. Had they not given him up for Realmuto Alfaro would have just joined Nick Williams and Thompson to make the Hamels trade even more of a heist for Texas.

I wasn't gloating. Just saying the Realmuto trade has turned out to be a zero-sum outcome in favor of the Phillies. The inclination to hate to trade prospects is understandable. But, in the end, unless they really are can't-miss prospects, they're just prospects.

At least some of Hamels' Phillies DNA continues on in Realmuto.

You do need a lot of them though, especially pitchers. The Braves have probably had far more failed or struggling pitching prospects than the Phillies (I can think of three just off the top of my head) but they've also just had more of them, period.

MLB fined and suspended Giants manager Gabe Kapler for one game for returning to the dugout following his fourth inning ejection during Tuesday night’s game against the Rays in SF.
Kapler will serve his suspension tonight, when the Giants are to begin a road series at Atlanta.
