It will be ironic if the Phillies do trade Hernandez and move Kendrick to 2B. Then it will feel like they could have just kept Utley all along. But of course there were assets involved, and symbolism, and Hernandez needed to play (and wouldn't have trade value if he hadn't played).

It feels much longer ago than it really was (except for Howard who's only been gone like 10 seconds). I found my ticket stub from the Hamels no-hitter in Chicago the other day.

I have mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, I wish him luck, but on the other hand, I'd like to see him retire with dignity, not trying to hang on as a much-reduced player.

If he can make the team and adjust to a new role, won't be anything undignified about it. I think it would be fun for him. I think if he was just desperate to play we would have seen him with another club last year. This feels more like an all-or-nothing deal, I don't think he'll go looking for another situation if it doesn't work out (unless maybe one of the other California teams come calling). And if he loves the game enough to be in Sacramento for a while more power to him.
