The “service time manipulation” line is a reference to Seattle sending Crawford to AAA at the beginning of this season to gain an extra year of team control; it’s not referencing anything that the Phils did.

Crawford is playing well. Good for him. Cataldi’s opinion aside, so is Segura. Good trade for both sides.

Watching the game, not so much for for Eshelman, but to watch Brendan McKay who played for Louisville who is my college team. McKay pitches two days ago and is playing DH tonight. Anyhow, Eshelman has looked very good since the 1st inning.

looking at the box score it is hard to believe Eshelman has pitched 5 inning of 2 run ball and is still looking for his first major league strike out victim...I guess many aren't overly surprised since I seem to recall that was one of the major knocks against him.

Finished the game after 5 innings with the lead. 3.6 ERA. Good for him! (O's eventually lost.)

If Eshelman is even serviceable for the Os over the rest of the year, I think you have to say his issue with the Phillies was how they treated him. I suspect he won’t be able to sustain and it really is about talent.

How did they treat him? Seems like he just hit a few (big) bumps and ran out of time/opportunity (including every team in MLB passing on him in Rule V). Things had gone differently he could have been ahead of Lively (and Eflin) last year or in the mix this year, sustainable or otherwise. Credit to the Phillies for extracting value and helping him return to serviceability this season.

Green has a 1099 OPS this season.. but its in the PCL which is having an offensive explosion. But hes tied for 6th in the league in HRs. 4 of the 5 players ahead of him have played 30 more games

Green left the organization as a minor-league free agent (after seven seasons in the Phils system) last November. Hadn't done anything to warrant a 40-man roster spot, and the uniform minor league player contract stipulates that after seven seasons, a minor-leaguer who isn't on the 40-man becomes a free agent (typically called a "six-year minor league free agent - don't ask why!).

It will be a little ironic if Green makes it and Walding doesn't. While Walding technically outplayed Green when they were together, he also hurt Green's development by pushing him to 1B where his offense did not play as well.

Did we get frustrated with Green's injuries and make the wrong call by pushing the player with less upside? It is possible. Good for Green to keep at it and make the show. Still only 25. He might have a Darrin Ruf career in him and he has more defensive value since he can play 3B (and presumably all 4 corners eventually).
