I was listening to part of the Rail Riders playoffs with the Bulls and the announcers were talking about Dylan Cozens. They said he was the downside of Aaron Judge, that he was what a failed Judge would look like. That he had some of the same failings Judge had in the minors like holes in his swing, but Judge had grown. FWIW.

Interesting note today.

Gabe Kapler was asked to interview this week with the Cubs and Giants for their manager vacancies, which leads you to believe that the fired Phillies manager will manage again. If so, Kapler would be just the third Phillies manager in the last 35 years to manage again after his time was up in Philadelphia.

Pete Mackanin, Ryne Sandberg, Charlie Manuel, Larry Bowa, Nick Leyva, Lee Ellia, and John Felske managed their last games in a Phillies uniform while Terry Francona and Jim Fregosi found managerial work elsewhere.

A pretty random cut-off point, however, since Luchessi, Ozark, Green and Corrales all managed elsewhere.

I had pretty much forgotten about Fregosi being in Toronto. He was still only 58 years old at that point. Was younger than Kapler (36) when he got the Angels job.

Not a "random" cutoff point. A point chosen because it supported the argument the writer wanted to make.

This is dishonest, of course, but it's pretty common, for all that. But call it what it is.

I think it's sort of random that he wanted that to be the statistic/argument. Would have been no more or less compelling to say that zero Phillies managers since Francona (so almost two decades) has gotten another job. Or to say that only six Phillies managers in the past 50 years did.

Yeah, I forgot that Ozark managed the Giants over the final months of the '84 season. I do remember Corrales getting the Indians gig less than six weeks after the Phillies fired him in '83 (39 days, to be exact). Indians had a plethora of phormer Phillies at that point due to the Bo Diaz, Sid Monge, John Denny and Von Hayes trades (Jerry Reed, Bake McBride, Manny Trillo, Julio Franco, George Vukovich). Just wondering but was Corrales in '83 the only time one manager managed two different teams during the same season?

Not sure he's the right guy for where the Giants are now. The right situation for him to try again at managing would, in my opinion, probably be like what Tito had in Boston, a veteran clubhouse with a lot of driven guys with strong leadership qualities and which largely policed itself.
