It's a fascinating piece. Still waiting for them to provide gift links like the rest of the NYT CMS (but don't need one myself).

Nats are calling up top prospect James Wood tonight. Though clearly they are manipulating his service time on the timing (extra year of control and no Super Two arbitration). How does one know that? Well they are giving away James Wood T-Shirts tonight so it is not like his last few weeks of play earned him this promotion which everyone kind of knew he deserved in Spring Training.

The Yankees and Orioles had a bench clearing shoving match last night after an Orioles player was plunked in the head. It was amusing to watch Judge wade through the crowd and basically pick up Orioles players and put them on their side of the scrum. He’s a big dude. Hopefully Herstad is ok.

We have acquired RHP Hunter Harvey from the Washington Nationals for minor-league INF Cayden Wallace and our Competitive Balance A pick.

To make room for Harvey, RHP Nick Anderson has been designated for assignment.

1 year left before FA after 2025 season I believe. Not a bad pickup, has been a fairly good reliever.

Replaces Ruiz

The Royals acquired him.. not the Phillies. The tweet was from the Royals thus the "we have"

Yeah, and thus bkox posted it in the non-Phillies news thread...

lol. Ok, been a long day. Oh well, I was confused how we got a competitive balance pick :grinning:

I read an article about that happening to someone who tried to hold in a sneeze. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Royals number two prospect plus a comp pick is a pretty steep price for Harvey.

Yeah, it would be nice to have extra freebie picks.

I was thinking a chicken bone or something but yeah it can also be caused by coughing or vomiting or other gastro issues.

Related to the Dodgers - Cubs opening the 2025 season in Japan, I looked up the Phillies and we have not had a Japanese player on the roster since 2008 (So Taguchi) and he was one of two Japanese players to suit up for the Phillies in their long history.

There have obviously been a limited amount of Japanese players in MLB over the years (there are currently 12 players on 7 teams) and I know DD expanded the organization's scouting and focus on Japan last year. Hopefully, that will lead to better understanding the talent there and being more attractive as a MLB destination.

I haven't looked, but I'm trying to remember any major Japanese player that signed with an eastern division team besides the Yankees or Red Sox. Kodai Senga, I guess though he was a bit more middling (and has missed this season so far though he is rehabbing). Can't think of any Braves, Orioles, Blue Jays, but may I am forgetting some.

The Mets had Tsuyoshi Shinjo earlier this century and they have two on their roster now...Senga and Fujinari Shintaro. I guess New York City helps to draw them.
