Howard was consistently 96-97; occasionally dropping to 94 (intentionally it seemed to try for more life). Changeup floated high the first 2 innings then he really got it going in the third diving out of the zone. I didn’t watch the entire game, but I didn’t see him land a curveball anywhere near the strike zone. Looked like he was trying to throw it harder, and it had been looking loopy in prior starts. When he’s pitching with adrenaline he seems to be able to drive his fastball down at the knees that is big league dominant.
Side note- the Yankee's Clark Schmidt was nearly as impressive. He was throwing 95 with a nasty curve. If I saw it right, he threw the last hitter of the game a 95 mph fastball, nasty curve, a good slider, a 91 splitter, an 87 change, and then another 83 mph curve for the strikeout.
If your a fan of watching dominating pitching prospect performances, this is the game for you (except for the yankees starting Jordan Montgomery for rehab in the playoffs)
