A really bad start for Kilome: 5 walks and 8 hits, including a HR, in 4 IP -- a WHIP of 3.25 -- yikes! He gets only 1 K and gives up 7 runs, only 3 earned.

No excuse for the walks, but the 4 unearned runs came after a 2-out error by Canelo and the next batter hit a grand slam. The kid is probably still learning how to deal with that. I am guessing the field was pretty sloppy too. The mental game is as much a part of development as the physical side. At least he improved in the cold weather this time around as his Lakewood cold weather performances were not great as I recall.

Edgar Garcia is dealing, wonder how long it'll take him to get to Lehigh.
Doesn't turn 22 until October.
Still filling out and probably will add some more velo the next couple years.
Used as a swing man, but I think the starts last year were to build up his arm and his repertoire of pitches.

I'm starting to think FB command is an underrated skill in prospects.
We've been waiting for Kilome to turn the corner for three years now.

Which may explain Seabold and Howard in last year's draft, maybe it's easier to tweak mechanics and improve secondary pitches when a pitcher has FB command than to teach the body control to develop command - is it an innate athletic skill, the ability to repeat your motion?

Pretty good start for De Los Santos despite a couple HR balls. Only 7 baserunners in 6 innings and 5 k's versus 1 walk.

Also worth noting that Walding left that Lehigh Valley game early, not sure the reason.

Leibrandt has a .182 BABIP. Lower K rate strongly implies it is just SSS luck though that does not mean he is not a 5th starter/LOOGY candidate. Lefties can get away with his lack of stuff if they change speeds and know how to pitch.
