Maybe no biggie to some but the pharm is sure doing a lot of losing lately. In fact, the only wins the system seems to be getting with regularity is when the GCL teams play each other.

I understand that its development that is the primary goal but I also believe that if a system is developing well they would be winning with some regularity come late July/August.

Phils youngsters are going the opposite way. Even more alarming to me is that summer should be hitting time for the players, weather is warm, everyone is stretched out and lineups tend to be a bit less nuanced.

Perhaps most painful to me was the lack of sustained talent received in the Hamels and Giles deals. Phils got back 11 players in those two big deals and other than Alfaro getting the Phils Realmuto [alas, also at the loss of Sanchez] the Phils have received little from those two deals.

I also find it ironic that more than a few posters want Hamels and Giles back. Now I was a big advocate of both deals, especially the Hamels deal but I can't help but wonder about the coaches at the minor league level.

Too many seemingly talented guys are dying on the vine for my tastes.

The development of players in our system over the past few years has been down right awful. I have often said at the disagreement of others that player leave our major league team and play better, but the same seems to hold true of minor leaguers (Sixto and Zach Green ofc the top of my head).

We have had some real trouble developing substantial prospects for a while now.

To give credit where credit is due, I guess we could say Velasquez has been somewhat productive but Giles has been much better.

Giles has had his ups and downs, and in fact, just as many downs. It was going to be a good trade no matter what merely because he was a reliever. His BBRef WAR (which does overweigh IPs I guess) in four seasons is 3.5 (two good seasons, two 0 or negative). VV's is 4.7.

Of course you would have liked one more piece of that trade to pan out, but Appel had value (too bad he didn't at least become a reliever). And the fabled Derek Fisher no longer looks like anything (the same or worse as Williams, anyway).

Rough night for the bats at Reading: Bohm, Moniak & Stephen a combined 0-14 with 8 k's. Though there's no arguing it's been a good year, Bohm is in his first sustained tailspin of 2019.
