I have mentioned him before and am unsure of his pedigree status [andyb, was he one of the bigger bonus guys?] but Johan Rojas sure is impressing me so far. All he has done since signing with the Phils is hit, and they now have him leading off..

Today he has walked 3 times in the leadoff spot and seems like a guy we can dream on. Anyone know more about him, he graduated from the Dominican League this summer, always a good sign for a young player, and has been outstanding in both the Latin league and GCL.

He was a low dollar signing in the 2017 class from the Dominican. While he was 16 when he was signed, he was actually eligible in the previous year's class because he had an August birthday.

Agree with you that he continues to hit and is worth watching. Playing mostly CF too so they must think his defense is decent.

Rojas is listed at 6'1 165, that sounds like a projectable signing, probably lacked strength but they saw something in his frame.

Far be it from me to be the Benjamin Franklin, who sees a rising sun over the hills on the chair that John Hancock sat in at Independence Hall rather than a setting one, but as critical as I have been about Kapler and Co at the major league level, I think the minor league season has been an overall positive so far.

Other than the wasteland that is Williamsport, I believe for the most part the other teams have been pretty successful. LHV has been a .500 club with several guys worth watching, and given the fact that most of the hurlers worry more about whether they will get evicted from their apartments since they are constantly telling their landlords "sorry, I am back to Philly for a few weeks," this team has been decent.

Reading and Clearwater have both done well and also have several prospects doing well. Lakewood is young, started poorly, but has been playing better lately and also several guys doing well.

Williamsport is terrible but not so bad that a Stott and Miller wouldn't help them and both rookie teams are doing well, with lots of guys worth following.

Both Dominican teams are doing real well and while we won't know for awhile whether that translates into solid guys here, it sure seems better to me to be winning and playing well than the reverse.

I am also more bullish than most about Almaraz drafts, Moniak and Haseley both look like future major leaguers to me and Bohm and Stott look like potential future stars. Kingery was a great #2 pick and had the Phils taken Senzel instead of Moniak [and we know they considered it] we would be nominating Almaraz for a statue outside CBP. Given the fact that the Phils then were a poor team it made sense to draft the younger Moniak than Senzel, though in retrospect Senzel would have probably made more sense.

Actually what I think is happening is that we are finally seeing which players we can dream on and which players have been giving us false hope. We can dream on Guzman and Brito and realize Gamboa is probably not going to make it.

We can finally realize that Ortiz is likely to be a miss while realizing Bohm was a great pick. We now know what the Phils saw in Howard while accepting that Seabold was likely a mistake. We know the Phils made a wise investment in Muzzioti and .probably missed on Pujols.

I get that the Phils system is likely rated in the low 20's right now but I suspect they have the potential to make a jump of about 10 notches in a year from now. I, for one, see a rising and not setting sun down on the pharm.

I just want to see how the minor league system finishes this year.

To me, it's pretty obvious they were making a lot of changes up and down the system, and a lot of young players seem to struggle with those adjustments, they completely revamped the coaching staff and their approach to hitting, and to a lesser extent, pitching.
