Starlyn Castillo is better in outing number 2. 2 IP and 1 run. Looks like a single that he helped around the bases with a WP and then a SF to score him.

Josh Gessner also with a clean inning today. We have hardly seen what might be our 3 top prospects in GCL this year (Castillo, Gessner, Jamari Baylor), so it is difficult to know what we have with them.

Good to see some continued improvement from Jones today, 3 ER in 5 innings although he did allow 8 baserunners including the 2 HBP. The one mistake that cost him was a 3-run HR to Rusney Castillo, a good AAA hitter who, by the way, would not be a terrible option for a bench role in the majors next year if he decides to opt out of his Boston contract. Does he want to bank $11M for yet another year in AAA or finally get another MLB opportunity somewhere else (albeit, for considerably less money)? He is stuck in AAA with Boston due to luxury tax reasons.

Rusney Castillo should probably just take the $14 million and stay in Pawtucket. He's 32 and putting up a league average batting line in AAA.

Hey not for nothing....but in a day or two Josh Stephen should have enough EL plate appearances at which point he's going to be either 5th or 6th in the league in OPS having played all of the season at age 21 and neither BA nor Mlb.com puts the cat in our top 30?

Interesting. LF, 11th round “pedigree”, doubles rather than HR power, best season by far...not that surprising I guess, but it isn’t driven by home park as his OPS is much higher on the road this year. Next year will tell the tale I guess.

As i had posted before. the game i saw at reading this year, stephen had a couple hits, but his swing is a real dandy from the left side. He might just make it. i know he needs more homers. but if they come, look out. and yes squire, he is only 21. playing and, certainly not foundering, in AA.

Very short swing without the torque to project enough power to be a big-league regular. If you told me goes on to have a Jason Michael's-type career i'd believe it, but not much more of a ceiling than that.
