I don't care about rankings, in the end, you "win or you die," either you become a ML player or your ranking was irrelevant.

While this is certainly true, the bigger issue is evaluating the quality of the draft/development professionals, including the international side. If we take your/Julio's approach, or more seriously if Middleton does, then this judgment can't be undertaken until 5-6 years after their first couple or three draft/international amateur seasons. By that time, if they aren't competent, then they have already crippled the organization with a decade of bad decisions. An organization needs to evaluate the success of the scouting staff and development staff, before the final verdict is in on the kids.

I"m sympathetic to this, allentown - but if you don't have good data, you run a real risk of making bad decisions about personnel. If you take the opposite view, and assume that you can evaluate a prospect earlier... well, you wind up with players who could have been core members of the Phillies instead becoming core members of the clubs you traded them to, when you gave up on them. If you're going to decide about prospects when they're 21, you'd better get it right, even if you don't have much data. That's hard to do.

The other problem is we don't know the impact of the changes in minor league instruction this year.

A lot of hitters had slow start and strong finishes, the normal adjustment process or also young players adjusting to changes in mechanics due to video coaching?

Then we have the ML ball issue, a lot of RPs were tearing it up (and Jones as well) before they hit AAA ball.
