At what point to they try to take some pressure off Ortiz and get him out of the cleanup spot? He’s not really even able to compete right now his approach and results are so bad - it’s as though he can’t see the ball. He’s getting buried with 2 strikes nearly every at bat.

Its interesting that we often overlook a guy we used to drool over after he has seemingly gone from prospect to suspect. I hope this is the case with Jan Hernandez. I recall the day he was drafted, many on this site were ecstatic. But with every strikeout, with every mediocre year, we began to mention him less and less.

Here is what I think. Moving him to right field has allowed him to relax and focus on his hitting and while his power numbers are nebulous so far, so is his strikeout rate [7 in 30 ABs] and he has started off well. He is still young and is now performing well in AA ball, not that far from the big leagues.

While I can bemoan the putrid performance of Randolph, yet another guy we may soon write off, I can cancel that out a bit by celebrating Hernandez.

I also try NEVER to allow myself to think of how strong this current Phillie team could be had they drafted Senzel instead of Moniak. Sheeesh, can you imagine a team adding Kingery AND Senzel in the same season?

Plenty of time for him to turn it around and I hope the best for him. but it would be a little easier to swallow if he flamed out in the high minors and not struggled to hit in low A. This guy faced and succeeded against elite competition as an amateur- what in the world changed from then to now that Class A would be a struggle?
