Welcome back, Trevor Bettencourt. He was out for quite a while after starting the year with Reading. He put up 77 K/9 BB in 58.2 IP across two levels last year (LAK, CLW), so that's worth noticing.

Outside of a changeup, teaching young pitchers how to make a FB move may be the most important development task (that and cleaning up mechanics to improve command). In today's game, a 95 MPH FB that doesn't move has to be perfectly placed to be effective, a 90-91 FB is asking to be hit.

Ideally you want a two seamer that moves like a screwball (remember when that was a pitch?) or has good sink and a four seamer that "rises." Pivetta and Eflin have that problem - when their FB doesn't move, it tends to exit the batter's box at high velocity (Velasquez's FB doesn't look like it has great movement, but just seems more explosive).

GCL Phils E scratch out a couple of runs in the 9th to win 5-3. Julio Francisco 2/3 with 2 BBs. Bailey Cummings should be pitching in WMPT--he's given up 1 ER in 11 outings over 17+ innings.

With the way the GCL is structured, could we move all the best players to whichever GCL team makes the playoffs (if one does) for the post-season? E is in first place, W is in second, which seems a good review on our younger players.

Keith Law today in a chat said that Haseley's swing "has been awful" and he is only succeeding in AA because of small sample size luck.

Does anyone have any idea why Law thinks Haseley has an "awful" swing? The only scouting reports I can see on Haseley have compared his swing to Utley's--short and few moving parts. When I watch him on video he looks very solid fundamentally...

Kyle Dohy - stuff has ticked up this year according to the Athletic. Seems stuff he learned through his agent and trainers he hooked up with as much as with the Phillies. I imagine lots of pitchers are doing stuff like this, learning bio-mechanical things through video that help their raw stuff. But if he is really 95 with a good wipeout slider he'll be up by mid next season. The Trevor Bauer school of video improvement.

Kind of excited to see Quinn up with the big club. A couple starts a week, pinch hitting and running, double switches and defense. Exactly what we need off the bench. Pinch running for the catcher, Franco, Santana, and/or Hoskins should be in play in the 8th or 9th inning if we need it. Probably can't do that as much with a 4-man bench, but the option is there and his ability to fake the infield should let them do it in most situations.

I too am interested in how Kapler would use Quinn. Kapler has certainly shown himself to be a creative manager.
