Good news on Howard. I think it's time. He may not be fully stretched out yet off his rehab, but he has graduated that level in terms of the level of competition those hitters are for him.

Thank goodness for Jim Peyton, he scoops a lot of good info from the Complex.

Reading will be a good test for Howard, really the first time he was not a bit old for a college prospect in a specific league. I don't worry about the stretched out piece of that. While his durability is a huge question for him as I starter, I don't think I would care to answer that this year. He probably should be treated like Sixto with kid gloves and 80 pitch outings the rest of the year. Next year they can ramp up the workload a bit.

Not that I don't trust our friend Jim Peyton, but it's worth noting that Howard's promotion has not yet been announced by the Phillies.

If he's slated to start for the Fightins tomorrow, they'll announce it tomorrow (along with whatever other moves are necessary because of roster limits). That's the way the organization rolls.

In the meantime, it's been reported, informally, by Jim Peyton, and also by Jay Floyd (Phoulballz), Steve Potter (Phillies - Photo Views, on Facebook) and Mike Drago (the Reading Eagle).

And for what it's worth, tomorrow's starting pitcher for the R-Phils (that felt good!) has not yet been announced...
