Have not really seen a scouting report other than a note that he was 90-93 in the phuturephillies comments (not from Jim). $150K bonus so not really expecting him to be more than that, though if he has solid command now and adds a little velocity along the way he could be a decent prospect. I'd say more top 50 at the moment than top 10 though.

I'm not certain that our 1-10 prospects would put us anywhere but middle of the road in terms of systems considering only 1-10 but I think I would put our 11-50 up against anybody.

Agree, Squire. Very deep in prospects. We need to have some of that Rhys Hoskins luck, where prospects "break out" from the 11-50 range to become useful MLB players or trade pieces.

Santos is 6'1 191, just turned 18 in July, so a substantial uptick in velocity this year or over the next couple years is not out of the question, if he was throwing 90-93, then a jump to 92-95 is more than enough to make him a real prospect.

However, I don't trust any pitching prospect until they get to Clearwater, rookie ball is too easy, and Lakewood is an extreme pitchers park, but Clearwater seems to be pretty neutral and the FSL has also become more neutral over the years.

Given all the top ten picks I've seen flame out over the years, I'd rather go 50-70 deep with a good developmental staff and have 3-4 surprise each year.

I think other than uber talents, there's so much variance in player development that you need safety in numbers, especially with pitchers.
