He is supposed to sit more in the 93-94 range, touching mid-90s. The book on him was mediocre secondary pitches so he previously was looked at more as a reliever. He is clearly better now. How much better is hard to say.

Cole Stobbe is starting to hit a little bit and it has been for a solid month.

Last 28 day split: 281/361/563 and add another HR today. Now he is 21, so old for his level, but I was thinking he was pretty close to being released a month or so ago.

Stobbe got $1.1 million in 2016 and has been injured during that time - they are going to give him every chance to justify their investment. I'd say any player they have invested over a half million in is not going to be released within the first 5-6 seasons.

Yeah, this is technically true. One might argue that the Phils would have given him three more seasons to "figure it out," but realistically, there wasn't anything there to figure out. BP power, but nothing else. I have to figure the development staff cracked open a bottle to celebrate when Greene failed to report.

Greene voluntarily retired and I was thinking Encarnacion played 5 seasons with the Phillies since I he signed in 2013. I wonder if there was anything else going on with Encarnacion because he was released by the Phillies as a 19 year old but looked like a 30 year old. Age 19 is pretty early to give up on a player.

Jones had really great command spotting his mid 90s fastball to the left side tonight- seemed like he hardly threw to the right side at all. His curve is usually iffy, and it started that way tonight but progressively got better and better- really plus by the 4th inning on. He was changing the shape at times to righties to sweep it down and in. Looked like he tried to throw some change ups and sliders, but they didn’t look much better than average at best.

That is kind of the 2-pitch arsenal he was supposed to have. Good news is that the first 2 pitches are major league quality. Command is probably age-related to some degree, but when he gets to the upper levels it is less of an issue in compiling stats against lesser competition.
