Listi with 2 HR today, hitting in the mid-300's in AA, gotta keep moving him up. Dude flat out knows how to hit.

Also very much worth noting, in my opinion, that Listi played RF today in Reading. I think he has exclusively been a 1B/DH since he was drafted. He did, however, play OF in college at DBU.

That's why his age is misleading, if you think of him tearing up AA at 23, he's a legitimate prospect.

Age is still important for Listi. Yes it is impressive that he has advanced so quickly, but age for someone like him is important in terms of filling out and growing into his power. In terms of baseball experience he has a bit less than others his age, but really not much less. Even if he were 23 though we would note that the ball carries in Reading in the Summer (1259/707 home/road OPS splits). And he is also a RH whose primary position is 1B.

He clearly has improved, but we really have not seen evidence that he is better than most of the older 1B prospects that have hit at Reading. Let's give him a little more sample size (Hall too) before thinking he is a decent prospect. Most senior draftees should advance really quickly but many stall at the upper levels against age appropriate competition. Josh Tobias hit AA at age 24 also. Has not hit much since that point.

They really don't like him at all. I'm a skeptic of the older, slugger, position-limited types until they do it at AAA at a reasonably appropriate age. It seems we have a Listi every year and more flop than succeed at AAA and majors. I was fooled by Ruf, and take a more wait-and-see approach now.

I think that scout was overly negative on Listi. I've seen him play and his swing is beautiful, not high effort at all. He maintains his balance and head position through the swing all the way into the follow through, which is what is important. Some scouts are continuously negative on anyone who isn't a ++ athlete or already considered a top prospect. I think Listi's age, although relevant, is less of a factor than it would be for someone who played baseball continuously--I probably would credit him as being one year younger than he actually is.

He's by no means a sure thing, but I'm betting that he could hit better than a decent number of major leaguers right now. We'll see, I guess. I'm always rooting for these older, production-based prospects. Hoskins was getting that reputation before his AAA/MLB debut year in some circles.

Normally, you wouldn't take Listi seriously, but going from college to AA in a year is extremely rapid progress, the older AA/AAA hitters tend to spend 2-3 years working their way up learning how to "game" younger pitchers and maximize their limited talent.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Phillies have reworked his swing, that "scouting" report is from early April.

What I see on video is consistent with what PhillyChuck said - a great swing. No hitch, short and direct to the ball. I’m no scout, but based on that seems to my eye that he has a chance.
