LHV 1B Joey Meneses, who has quietly had a nice season for the Pigs, is a single shy of the cycle through his first three at-bats.

Cole Irvin working on a 4-hit shutout through 6 innings. Maybe he's the left-handed Cole this rotation needs in Philly...

Meneses, who is 26, is in his first AAA year this season. Has an OPS over 1000 right now, and has been a revelation for a LV team in need of some offensive help. Irvin is running out of gas in the 7th. Gave up single/single to start the frame, but Zac Curtis came in and struck out the next two hitters. Facing a pinch hitter now...gets him to fly out to RF. Great start for Irvin.

PC-- I would think that soon Joey Meneses is going to hit the top 30-ish. Not just on the 42 hits in 113 at bats but also because 19 of them are for extra bases. He is 26 but if he keeps hitting like this, it won't matter what age he is. Smokey Burgess was old too.

I think Meneses might play in the big leagues, but he'll never appear on a top-30 prospects list at his age. With Santana on the Phils' roster I don't think Meneses will play for the Phils unless Santana gets hurt, and, even then Hoskins might move to 1B.

BTW, Jake Thompson got an impressive 1.1 IP save in the LV game (3 Ks).

Looks like Connor Brogdon is the odd man out in the Lakewood rotation (at least for now). That is one heck of a pitching rotation...Rosso, Stewart, Jones, Parkinson, Howard, and Young. Right now Howard has the highest ERA and he's pitching well. Lakewood always makes pitchers look pretty good statistically, but this might be the deepest rotation I've ever seen there. I'd love to see Lakewood add one minor league vet who can really mash the ball to kick-start their offense.

Note on the Lakewood game--Young, Brogdon, and Dohy had 15 Ks tonight with 0 BBs. That's a pretty impressive performance. Lakewood leads the Sally league in ERA but is last in OPS. Not a surprise for their home park, but their road stats aren't bad, either.

He reminds me of Craig Breslow. Good angle, like a 91-93 mph fastball, good change and slider (so much so that some pitches I would have guessed were sliders, broadcasters called changeups). He, Parkinson, and Jones all have some really good attributes as lefties taken later in the draft last year.

If you're 26 and in AAA you don't need anyone to decide you're a prospect, you just need a shot. Hard to come by as a RH 1B, or on a team with a four-man bench, though.
