I know everybody always wants guys moved fast and challenged but since he is now hitting .185 I'm not sure I think the decision to put Luis Garcia in Lakewood was a success. In any event he's back there next year with Stott jumping him for Clearwater.

Thank you for giving us something to be excited about on a night and really two-month stretch where the major league team does not inspire confidence. It's nice to have a couple of high ceiling, blue chip prospects - and way overdue. Hope Bryson Stott can climb the ladder in the next year and join your too-small club.

I was OK with Garcia at Lakewood to begin the year. We thought his offense was advanced enough. Probably should have bumped him back to Williamsport when that season began.

De La Cruz probably should have been in Williamsport the whole way though as you say, the recent improvement in his offense speaks well for him. I do wonder if he is a guy that might hit 20-25 HR next year in a more neutral HR environment. The Ks are a concern of course, though not a surprise with his relative inexperience and super long swing.

In other promotion musing, they probably should have left Damon Jones in Reading for another month. Easy to say now, but I think they were clearly trying to see if he was a quick fix for the major league team this year and they pushed him for little reason.

One thing to keep in mind is that young, skinny, kids who have not had the advantage of weight-room training often tire out in late July and August if they are playing every day. Even Moniak had trouble with this before he started serious weight training. Garcia is a young, skinny kid who certainly fits the profile of that kind of player.

I don't think Keith Law is the end all, be all of minor league evaluations but I do think its important to not discount him either and I found something he said this week quite revealing.

He was asked about the weakness of the Phillie pharm system and he said a mistake they continually make is moving youngsters from short season, rookie ball to full season Lakewood way too often and way too soon.

Given the struggles of Garcia and several other Lakewood youngsters, it is something worth considering and watching for in the coming years. Law said they do this all the time and lose many youngsters because of it.

Garcia came out slowly, had a solid streak in late May and all of June, and has faded recently. I put that down to adjusting to the jump, figuring things out a bit, then getting tired. I admit I could be wrong.
