I am certainly having fun watching---from a distance. It is hard to believe they are playing under .500 ball with those top 5 hitters. Granted Bohm is new to the lineup but 4 of the 5 are over .300 and the fifth is close.

You can't possibly think the Phillies would release Ortiz who is all of 20 years old and was given a $4 million signing bonus. There is no chance he is a release candidate. None. Maybe I am misreading what you are suggesting or implying.

I don't think PC is saying release is imminent, and there's also some hyperbole, but he is saying that when the rubber meets the road, somewhere between AA and Rule V protection, Ortiz may not be a keeper.

For sure, between his age and his bonus, it's probably still three years away (especially if he can't get to AA before 2021).

What I was saying is that Ortiz' performance to date over the last two seasons shows no sign of a player who will even make it to AAA, much less the big leagues. It's really disappointing following his exceptional season in 2017 in WMPT. The guy put up a 960+ OPS in a really tough hitting park in a full season. Last year in Lakewood his OPS was .673, which, even for Lakewood, is bad. This year it's in the low 500's in CLW, where the weather and parks are much more hitter-friendly. If his performance doesn't change he will get released at some point, which means he's looking like a release candidate--as mentioned, his bonus and age will give him more chances (look at Randolph in AA). I get pretty disturbed by how badly we bungle the high-dollar signees in LA. Not the players' fault, of course, I'm still rooting for Ortiz to turn it around...

The guy who really should have started at Lakewood last year was Ortiz and not Bohm. He never really mastered the level, lost some time with injuries, and is young enough that he would not be at all old for the level.

I think they suspected he hated the cold weather and wanted to keep him in Clearwater for instruction, but those are not good enough reasons to aggressively promote him.

Also doesnt bode well for a guy who plays for a team in Philadelphia, who has a AAA affiliate in Allentown and a AA affiliate in Reading.

On the position player side. I'm not convinced the Phillies have a good approach to scouting position players. They've gone too much for speed/athleticism or batting practice power or, I guess nice swing but with no power and no D. For a $4 million package, espectially $4 million several years ago, you ought to be able to get the whole package, as in Vlad, Jr. Draft or international, our big bonus position player choices just don't seem to stack up to the good scouting teams. We used to do very much better. I don't know what the problem is. Is the post-Arby team just weak? Is it just SSS great draft luck followed by SSS awful draft luck? Is it instruction. Is Ortiz just Encarnacion and Larry Greene, Jr. all over again? None of these 'big power tool' guys showed big power. Spend the big $ on pitching, or in LA no big $ guys and a bunch of almost big $ pitchers. Maybe Garcia gets us off the 0-fer in LA position players for current regime. I do remember the write-up when we actually signed Ortiz that we had made the bonus $ commit quite a bit earlier and he was no longer rated nearly that highly.
