I have to admit that I didn't think the two Phillies GCL Franchises would be playing each other in league play. I feel very conflicted.

Yeah, that shouldn't happen. Players won't be conflicted, but management will have several competing incentives.

It's weird at best and nonsensical at worst to have intrasquad games count in the standings, if in fact they do.

League should arrange a schedule where they don't play each other. It's better to keep the rookies in FLA where the best facilities and coaches live.

They did put them in separate divisions so they don't play each other that much. Though geographically I think they divide the league schedule into 2 zones with the Central FL divisions playing each other and the South FL ones also. Downside of not playing at all would be playing all your games within a 4 or 5 team division.

We all probably need to remember that they don't really play these games for us. GCL is developmental and really only a step up from informal instructional or extended Spring games. The Phillies probably don't care who wins these games even if we do.

I really hope playing each other doesn't hurt the players development. How are the Phillies allowing this to happen? It's almost like an intrasquad game being played in a developmental league. Blasphemy!

Wayyyy early but big bonus guy, Luis Garcia, is off to a great start. Nice to see. Also nice to see that many of the Phils recent draftees are hitting well early. Its been a fun 1.5 months since mid May when the system started to play well, hit well, and began to win on a consistent basis.

In the same vein CD we should note that our 3rd and 4th largest bonus guys from the 2016 international period are in GCL and doing well. Francisco Morales ($900K) and Brayan Gonzalez ($720K) were the top bonuses and are in Williamsport.

3rd largest bonus was Nicolas Torres, an offense-first 2B that put up an 804 OPS in DSL last year and is batting 2nd and hitting .462 in the early going for GCL. His teammate Juan Aparicio, a catcher, just hit his 2nd HR for GCL today.

The other medium bonus guys from 2016 are doing less well. Jose Tortolero is on GCL but has not played yet ($450K). Raymond Mora (OF) is in DSL for a second year and not playing well ($400K). Luigi Mujica is a SS in his second DSL year and is playing better than last year ($350K).

Torres and Aparicio are two of the most important names to watch at GCL this year along with the new guys (Garcia).

I just realized catcher Juan Mendez is on the 60 day dl with Clearwater west. That’s a bummer- he had the best offensive prospect -age season I can remember for a Phils player in the dsl.

If too many people are interested in Carlos De La Cruz to qualify - then I think I like Kyle Dohy more than most. Underrated stuff from the left side that is missing lots of bats. Would not be shocked if he makes the club at some point next season.

Bailey Falter. 6' 4" lefty that is at times is dominating A+ and just turned 21. People seem to think he has physical projection left to see an uptick in stuff too.

Darick Hall for the last two years. I love performance. If not, Austin Listi--I'm a sucker for overaged guys who actually perform well in the minors. (If AA guys qualify). If not, I love Ramon Rosso because he's been unbelievably good after being released.
